My friend got into the Closed Beta for this game, so it may be possible for me to keep updates about its progress on this thread.

I guess he is under NDA then? It would be great if he could create an account here and keep us posted, even though he probably cannot reveal much.

I hear that there wont be any "real" faction vs faction PvP in this game. It would be a real shame if they do not change that. :(

Ya, everyone is the good guy. BUT, a few days ago they said that they WILL be implementing some form of PvP. Wether it'll be at release or not, I do not know.

Alright, well I'm in beta for LotRO atm and I'm not going to say anything Turbine wouldn't want me to for obvious reasons. However, I do know a lot about the game that Turbine has released, just not everyone really understands it.

So first off: There is no faction PvP becaues there is only one faction. However, unlike any form of PvP before, LotRO has what is called "PvMP" (MP = monster player). What it is is that you can choose to play as a monster temporarily, and you can fight in certain parts of the world. The actual battleground areas vary from forest/woodland terrain and outdoors to FPS-style maps. As you play a monster you earn "monster points" which allow you to become a bigger, meaner monster, or allow you to purchase buffs or upgrades for your main character. All in all, a really cool idea while staying true to the LotR lore.

Graphically: LotRO terrain is absolutely gorgeous. Probably best I've ever seen, however as for the actual models, the graphics need improvement, but I can deal with it. The faces however, suck (remind me of NWN faces).

.

That is a very original idea, I hope they can make it work :)

They recently released another patch for it, and while I'm not going to say the changes made, the game is definitely a contender even in its current state for me to buy it now. I am very impressed with the current progress of the game. Although it still needs some work before I actually would buy it, it is still getting pretty close.
