Hey guys, for recording movies I use a purchased copy of FRAPS and I run on 1280x1024 resolution however my movies are never particularly clear. As of recently I've been seeing movies where even the chat is readable, and mine don't seem to have that quality. I have my recording set to full-size and 30fps but I don't know what else I should tweak.

Fraps can only record up to 1152x864. Thus it only captures half of your 1280x1024 (640x512), if you want better quality I suggest switching the resolution down to 800x600-1152x864.

I usually play in window mode, if I put my settings to 1152 x 768 then the window is smaller than my monitor. If I then press the maximize button (which brings it up to 1280 x 1024), then will fraps then start recording in half size (because it's been maximized to 1280), or will it continue to record at 1152 x 768 because that's my ingame setting...

sorry if that seemed a bit on the confusing side.

It would then switch to the half size, windowed mode ignores the set resolution sort of (smaller window = faster game)

Say the native resolution for your monitor is 1280 x 1024. If you play in fullscreen mode with the game resolution set as 1152 x 768, fraps will record at that resolution (set in-game) and it'll still fit your whole screen, although it may look a bit out of proportion at first.

I'm actually in a similar situation. I started running WoW in 1024x768 windowed mode maximized on a monitor that I run at 1280x1024 so that I would not get half-sized fraps files. Though the files weren't half-size, they were definitely not as clear as I was hoping. Once I dropped my monitor resolution down to 1024x768, the quality of recordings was significantly better.
